We wanted to start giving space and a platform here to work, people, opinions and companies that we respect. They will have most probably influenced both our work and the way we think about theatre and it's place in the world. At some level they will all have had a social thread - a want for our art form to reach beyond the walls of theatres and beyond the realm of pure entertainment.
SO! Let's start with a champion.
7:84 was a Scottish left-wing agitprop theatre group first run by the amazing John McGrath. This game-changing company, which unfortunately ceased work in 2008, redefined what could be created between artists and communities not generally associated with the theatre arts. Their flag ship show, 'The Cheviot, The Stag and The Black, Black Oil', dealt with the economic use and abuse of the Scottish Highlands, and you can watch the BBC version of it here.
